Blog

Welcome to my blog. You're going to find everything here: the book reviews I share on Amazon, the silliness I post to Facebook, whatever might pop into my head that comes out on paper, an education on organizing techniques, pointers to anything from a quiet spot to read a book in Edmonds, WA to worthwhile charitable recipients.

I'm giving myself permission to refuse to write every day - too much pressure!!! I'd never enjoy writing again, and I'd bet my audience would start making comparisons between me and a mosquito. I'm told I have a good sense of humor - I know I enjoy finding ways to laugh and to get other people to laugh. Don't take any of it too seriously, except of course the serious stuff. And, after all, everything is about our stuff.

Organizing Your Garage In No Time by Barry Izsak

By Lauren Williams | February 28, 2017 | Comments Off on Organizing Your Garage In No Time by Barry Izsak

OK, this book is about garages. It’s about decluttering the garage. It’s about safety in the garage. It talks tools. But it’s really about The Dream Garage. Planning it, constructing it, and keeping it functional for all time. But soooooo much of Mr. Izsak’s sensible advice is applicable for other spaces in your home or…

Old Bathroom Sink Pipe & a Leak & a Mess oh my

By Lauren Williams | February 22, 2017 | Comments Off on Old Bathroom Sink Pipe & a Leak & a Mess oh my

The lovely photo of a pristine bathroom above is NOT representative of the wet mess I, no eyeglasses yet, no coffee, squelched onto first thing 5:30 this cold Pacific Northwest morning. My supply line – OK, what is a supply line??? – had sprung a leak overnight, gracing me with a lake in the cabinet…

We need the closet, Harry. Move out.

By Lauren Williams | February 20, 2017 | Comments Off on We need the closet, Harry. Move out.

Do you have a Harry Potter closet? As I sit in my apartment, pondering how to find another few inches of space next to my water heater for the shipment of boxes which arrived two weeks earlier than I expected, I’m somehow reminded of Harry Potter’s cupboard under the stairs. A nuisance space, too strangely…

A Valentine for my clients: a few of my favorite things

By Lauren Williams | February 14, 2017 | Comments Off on A Valentine for my clients: a few of my favorite things

Working with six cats underfoot. A new “client” dog begins the day terrified of me, and that same sweet girl asks to sit in my lap by the end of the day. Being taught about the Bullet Journal by a client. A client who proclaims, the minute I walk in the house, “You need a…

Consider dignity when choosing assisted living for seniors

By Lauren Williams | February 12, 2017 | Comments Off on Consider dignity when choosing assisted living for seniors

I am in a profession which often helps seniors downsize: colleagues of mine specialize in it. My friend Trish Throop of Eldercare Consulting cautions that active-retirement and assisted living facilities have to be carefully evaluated: “Somewhere on my tour of Aegis’s newest assisted living property in Seattle, between the grand staircase and the temperature-controlled wine…

Donna Smallin Organizing Plain & Simple

Organizing Plain & Simple by Donna Smallin

By Lauren Williams | February 11, 2017 | Comments Off on Organizing Plain & Simple by Donna Smallin

I wrote this review of “Organizing Plain & Simple” in April, 2015. Ms. Smallin is one of the most respected members of my profession, with very very good reason. And I still have the same reaction to her book today, as I’m studying for my credential as a Certified Professional Organizer. It’s a quirk of…

Organizing = Archaeology

By Lauren Williams | February 5, 2017 | Comments Off on Organizing = Archaeology

An April 2016 Yelp review from my wonderful client Pinko G. I like this one because we agree “Organizing = Archaeology.” “Lauren has been a dream. She is casual & yet totally professional. A very intuitive and caring personality too. She came into my bogged down studio apartment and box by box helped me sort…
