Blog

Welcome to my blog. You're going to find everything here: the book reviews I share on Amazon, the silliness I post to Facebook, whatever might pop into my head that comes out on paper, an education on organizing techniques, pointers to anything from a quiet spot to read a book in Edmonds, WA to worthwhile charitable recipients.

I'm giving myself permission to refuse to write every day - too much pressure!!! I'd never enjoy writing again, and I'd bet my audience would start making comparisons between me and a mosquito. I'm told I have a good sense of humor - I know I enjoy finding ways to laugh and to get other people to laugh. Don't take any of it too seriously, except of course the serious stuff. And, after all, everything is about our stuff.

A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder Eric Abrahamson & David H. Freedman

By Lauren Williams | March 1, 2018 | Comments Off on A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder Eric Abrahamson & David H. Freedman

Subversive. Heretical. Blasphemous. Sacrilegious. Profane. Charming. A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder; How crammed closets, cluttered offices, and on-the-fly planning make the world a better place by Eric Abrahamson & David H. Freedman is a dense, irreverent, thought-provoking rallying cry against the modern march to perfectionism. It is charming.   The message? “Dude, chill.” Creativity…

This February 15, 2018 Washington Post Home and Garden article “What to know about hiring a professional organizer” by Kevin Brasler is worth analyzing, line by sometimes-painful line. Hello, My Name is Doris

By Lauren Williams | February 15, 2018 | Comments Off on Hello, My Name is Doris

I broke up with BNI Sky Valley Business Boosters Monroe on Valentine’s Day 2018. It’s painful. The relationship had been great: supportive, fun-filled, intellectually stimulating. I unhesitatingly recommend BNI as a source of highly competent professionals for hire in a wide range of industries, and as a mechanism for business professionals to grow their businesses…

The Difference a Digit can Make – Bookkeeping for the Faint-of-Heart

By Lauren Williams | February 12, 2018 | Comments Off on The Difference a Digit can Make – Bookkeeping for the Faint-of-Heart

I’m tormented with reconciling my bookkeeping for tax year 2017, a task I’m abysmally fond of putting off as long as possible. Far as I’m concerned, it’s with good reason. $116.89 for lunch?!??!??!??!?!??!??!????? My teenaged son, who like all teens has to be stopped before he eats the refrigerator or the plates, and I, but…

Valentine to my Clients 2018 – Thank You

By Lauren Williams | February 11, 2018 | Comments Off on Valentine to my Clients 2018 – Thank You

Because You fired me when I tried, earnestly and with ill-consideration, to give you a compliment and I shamed you instead. I will always remember the reminder to take care with my words and intentions. You don’t automatically agree with me, questioning me when I’m not making sense. I’m not all-seeing, don’t want to be…

Edward Hallowell’s Delivered from Distraction

By Lauren Williams | February 1, 2018 | Comments Off on Edward Hallowell’s Delivered from Distraction

Edward Hallowell is an extremely gifted writer. His work is lyrical, poignant, often funny, and always to-the-point and accessible. I seldom want to write a review which is nothing but quotes from the book under consideration, but I had to fight the impulse this time. Instead, I will simply urge everyone who has any interest…
