Blog

Welcome to my blog. You're going to find everything here: the book reviews I share on Amazon, the silliness I post to Facebook, whatever might pop into my head that comes out on paper, an education on organizing techniques, pointers to anything from a quiet spot to read a book in Edmonds, WA to worthwhile charitable recipients.

I'm giving myself permission to refuse to write every day - too much pressure!!! I'd never enjoy writing again, and I'd bet my audience would start making comparisons between me and a mosquito. I'm told I have a good sense of humor - I know I enjoy finding ways to laugh and to get other people to laugh. Don't take any of it too seriously, except of course the serious stuff. And, after all, everything is about our stuff.

Where There Is Smoke Make Sure There is No Fire!

By Lauren Williams | December 3, 2017 | Comments Off on Where There Is Smoke Make Sure There is No Fire!

I’m reblogging this from Rhonda Sanderson of Pillar to Post Home Inspectors, after finding it on a blogging site called ActiveRain. I was once in a work situation when people ignored a fire alarm for what turned out to be a REAL fire. A dozen people could have been hurt. I’ve always been hypervigilant since. This…

Making Peace with the Things in Your Life by Cindy Glovinsky

By Lauren Williams | November 30, 2017 | Comments Off on Making Peace with the Things in Your Life by Cindy Glovinsky

In Making Peace with the Things in Your Life, Ms. Glovinsky begins with a simple idea: that all people have emotional responses to their Things.  And she ends with a meditation on life.  Warm, witty, thought-provoking and kind, Ms. Glovinsky gently teaches you to identify your reactions to Things, whether those reactions are fearful, possessive,…

When is Too Much?

By Lauren Williams | November 28, 2017 | Comments Off on When is Too Much?

I see a lot of Legos. And collections: Hummels, purses, plates, hats, Star Wars toys, shoes, holiday decorations, jewelry, books, makeup, cookware … and collectible Legos. By my standards, I have a massive, intrusive amount of Legos in my house: my son treasures sets, and scratchbuilds with loose pieces. I suspect I could build a…

Thanks Forgiving

By Lauren Williams | November 21, 2017 |

I struggle with forgiving. Taking on forgiveness, a conscious act of forgiving someone, sometimes feels dangerous to me, as if I will leave myself deliberately vulnerable to another transgression by an offender. But there is strong research (the pioneers are Dr. Fred Luskin of Stanford University and Dr. Robert Enright of the University of Wisconsin-Madison) that…

The Challenge of Language

By Lauren Williams | November 17, 2017 |

I have to. I must. You must. I have to meet this deadline. I must meet this deadline. You must meet this deadline. I have to meet this deadline to get organized or I’ll be embarrassed when my friends come over for the party. I must meet this deadline and then I’ll have a more…

Relationships

By Lauren Williams | November 15, 2017 | Comments Off on Relationships

I terminated an unproductive business relationship today. Ought to be a done deal, pun intended, in about two weeks. It took me a while, maybe too long, to get to the brink – I believe in fair chances. But it’s costing me far more in time and energy than it’s bringing back in income, and…

Clever Girl’s Guide to Living With Less by Kathy Vines

By Lauren Williams | November 12, 2017 | Comments Off on Clever Girl’s Guide to Living With Less by Kathy Vines

Clever Girl’s Guide to Living with Less by Kathy Vines is an easy-to-read book written with compassion and good humor. It is a good primer, a very basic guide to the principles for how one gets organized, and the emotional obstacles which can make the work so frustrating. Precisely because it is so basic, this…

By Lauren Williams | November 8, 2017 | Comments Off on CALLING ALL DEDICATED SHOPPERS – Goodwill Glitter Sale Nov 11 – 12 2017

I get Professional Organizer perks. Excellent perks. Fierce and fabulous perks. A behind-the-scenes tour of Goodwill Seattle‘s premier retail location at 1400 South Lane Street last night, was, for the second time I’ve taken the tour, my favorite perk of all time. My NAPO Seattle Area chapter colleagues and I were hosted by a good friend…

Keep on Keeping on – Continuing Education for Certified Professional Organizers

By Lauren Williams | November 3, 2017 | Comments Off on Keep on Keeping on – Continuing Education for Certified Professional Organizers

Just applied for my third certificate of study from the Institute for Challenging Disorganization. My goal is five by the end of the year. That’ll satisfy 1/3 of my Continuing Education requirements for my NAPO CPO status for the next three years and I’ll surely be serving my clients even more effectively with what I…
