Blog

Welcome to my blog. You're going to find everything here: the book reviews I share on Amazon, the silliness I post to Facebook, whatever might pop into my head that comes out on paper, an education on organizing techniques, pointers to anything from a quiet spot to read a book in Edmonds, WA to worthwhile charitable recipients.

I'm giving myself permission to refuse to write every day - too much pressure!!! I'd never enjoy writing again, and I'd bet my audience would start making comparisons between me and a mosquito. I'm told I have a good sense of humor - I know I enjoy finding ways to laugh and to get other people to laugh. Don't take any of it too seriously, except of course the serious stuff. And, after all, everything is about our stuff.

By Lauren Williams | November 8, 2017 | Comments Off on CALLING ALL DEDICATED SHOPPERS – Goodwill Glitter Sale Nov 11 – 12 2017

I get Professional Organizer perks. Excellent perks. Fierce and fabulous perks. A behind-the-scenes tour of Goodwill Seattle‘s premier retail location at 1400 South Lane Street last night, was, for the second time I’ve taken the tour, my favorite perk of all time. My NAPO Seattle Area chapter colleagues and I were hosted by a good friend…

By Lauren Williams | November 3, 2017 | Comments Off on Keep on Keeping on – Continuing Education for Certified Professional Organizers

Just applied for my third certificate of study from the Institute for Challenging Disorganization. My goal is five by the end of the year. That’ll satisfy 1/3 of my Continuing Education requirements for my NAPO CPO status for the next three years and I’ll surely be serving my clients even more effectively with what I…

WAIT! Santa can buy cookies & eat them too

By Lauren Williams | October 24, 2017 | Comments Off on WAIT! Santa can buy cookies & eat them too

I made a mistake in my last blog, Sneaky Santa. Some, maybe even most charities, will take a check with a smile and a big “Thank You” and they’ll spend the money as carefully as they can. But the Girl Scouts cookies….   Those cookies aren’t just the cash: the young women selling those power-powder-dripping Savannah…

By Lauren Williams | October 24, 2017 |

Like shopping, especially around the holidays? Maybe ought not to shop – get just a little too enthusiastic? You know what I mean: no idea where the trinket will go on the tree, five oh-so-cute miniature Santa hats for the dog instead of one, $100 out of pocket instead of $10…When you find yourself in…

She’s got lots of good stuff, take a glance at her page. And my colleagues had very wise words to add in this piece: I’ve never thought to keep the indoor stuff…

National Coming Out Day – LGBTQ without apology

By Lauren Williams | October 11, 2017 | Comments Off on National Coming Out Day – LGBTQ without apology

I am bisexual, capable of loving, committed, supportive, long-term physical and emotional relationships with either men or women. I’ve been out since 1982. I’m neither proud nor ashamed of this, any more than I’m proud or ashamed of being a redhead, short, having extremely bad eyesight or being right-handed. It is just me. I am…

Adventures with Machinery, or Stubborn Self-Care – Always look for resources!!

By Lauren Williams | October 8, 2017 | Comments Off on Adventures with Machinery, or Stubborn Self-Care – Always look for resources!!

Facebook as diary… October 8, 2017  – I have car. I have gear back in car. My tool kit – oh lovely lovely needle-nose pliers which pulls humongous nasty biting staples out of cardboard. Industrial light, which lights the way past Shelob in Mordor and dark basements. More room for more boxes. Always more boxes.…

Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat? by Peter Walsh

By Lauren Williams | September 29, 2017 | Comments Off on Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat? by Peter Walsh

No, it’s not a cruel book. Walsh is exploring the idea, which he has seen in his clients many times and which his readers have described to him, that a person’s clutter can lead to a vicious cycle of the clutterer losing hope, neglecting self-care, getting depressed and anxious and therefore even more disorganized, then…
