Blog

Welcome to my blog. You're going to find everything here: the book reviews I share on Amazon, the silliness I post to Facebook, whatever might pop into my head that comes out on paper, an education on organizing techniques, pointers to anything from a quiet spot to read a book in Edmonds, WA to worthwhile charitable recipients.

I'm giving myself permission to refuse to write every day - too much pressure!!! I'd never enjoy writing again, and I'd bet my audience would start making comparisons between me and a mosquito. I'm told I have a good sense of humor - I know I enjoy finding ways to laugh and to get other people to laugh. Don't take any of it too seriously, except of course the serious stuff. And, after all, everything is about our stuff.

The Level 1 Foundation Certificate of Study in Chronic Disorganization is the absolute baseline course of study to allow me to pursue certification by the Institute for Challenging Disorganization as a Certified Professional Organizer specializing in chronic disorganization (CPO-CD). I earned this Level 1 “diploma” on 8/25/2017.   Chronic Disorganization is “characterized by disorganization that…

You Could be Wrecking Your Home – And Not Know It (Yet)!

By Lauren Williams | August 24, 2017 | Comments Off on You Could be Wrecking Your Home – And Not Know It (Yet)!

Amy Mullen, Realtor, CPA, CDPE, MBA, has given me permission to reblog this. I think it’s wonderful, the exact kind of tiny detail “I wish I knew then what I know now” piece that is invaluable.  “First-time homeowners often make these 9 common — and avoidable — mistakes. Don’t be one of them. You haven’t felt…

Grief

By Lauren Williams | August 16, 2017 | Comments Off on Grief

I learned this morning that a client of mine passed away very unexpectedly two weeks ago. The person telling me heard the tears coming to me and asked me not to cry, the person who passed had lived a wonderful life. I’d barely worked with this client, but I my grief is real, strong and…

Institute for Challenging Disorganization – jumping in feet first

By Lauren Williams | August 15, 2017 | Comments Off on Institute for Challenging Disorganization – jumping in feet first

There is a joke which may be peculiar to New Yorkers which goes like this: “How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.” For some reason, that ridiculous joke started running in my head this morning as I got my login ID for the Institute for Challenging Disorganization. ICD is now the second…

By Lauren Williams | August 14, 2017 | Comments Off on Marie Kondo “the life-changing magic of tidying-up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing”

Marie Kondo’s “the life-changing magic of tidying up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing”   Doesn’t Translate for Me   As a Professional Organizer, I wanted to give a balanced review of Ms. Kondo’s book. I am quite sure, having explored the website of the Japan Association of Life Organisers (JALO), that there are…

Tips for Staying Organized with Kids  This advice is probably universal among my colleagues and I. I was just glad to contribute to this GoodCall blog. I’m reprinting it here with permission. I’m even more glad I got permission when I did – four days in Ocean Shores, WA on a bit of vacation is great, except when you…

Certified Professional Organizer, Mentoring, Part 2

By Lauren Williams | July 28, 2017 | Comments Off on Certified Professional Organizer, Mentoring, Part 2

I’m thrilled to announce that I earned my designation of Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO) from the Board of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) on 7/1/2017. I’m one of only nine CPOs in WA among 318 in the US. Fewer than 10% of all NAPO members have earned this status. I’ve worked…

5 Reasons Why Letting Go is Good for the Soul

By Lauren Williams | July 24, 2017 | Comments Off on 5 Reasons Why Letting Go is Good for the Soul

This is the third article I’ve written for Jeff Moore’s fantastic website EveryDayPowerBlog. It was fun writing, but the best part is the video that Jeff found for the end. I’m reprinting the article with Jeff’s permission, but PLEASE go online for the film. It’s fascinating. 5 Reasons Why Letting Go is Good for the Soul…

Pop Goes the Client

By Lauren Williams | July 23, 2017 | Comments Off on Pop Goes the Client

It’s a good day when you can help a “pop-up” client (Lauren Williams dictionary: a client who only needs help every once-in-a-while) last-minute before a home inspection.
